Acoustic Engineer (Industrial Noise Control / Acoustic Attenuation)

  • Location: North Essex area
  • Salary: Negotiable, depending upon experience
  • Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
  • Working Hours: Mon-Thu 08:00-17:00, Fri 08:00-16:00

Specialist engineering and fabrication business delivering bespoke noise control and acoustic attenuation solutions for industrial and energy applications is looking to recruit an Acoustic Engineer.

You will be responsible for carrying out acoustic assessments, producing calculations, and supporting engineering projects from an acoustics standpoint.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working with generator plant (diesel), boiler houses, and other mechanical services environments. This position is suited to someone who has delivered project management responsibilities within these technical areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and engineer acoustic solutions for industrial noise control (enclosures, ventilation attenuation, exhaust silencers, panels).
  • Translate client needs into clear acoustic specifications (dB targets, octave-band data, insertion loss, breakout noise, vibration and pressure drop constraints).
  • Complete acoustic calculations/modelling to optimise designs, balancing noise reduction with airflow and manufacturability.
  • Support validation using accredited test data; produce and maintain technical documentation (datasheets, IOMs, technical submissions/reports).
  • Collaborate with 2D/3D design and workshop teams to ensure safe, manufacturable, right-first-time delivery.
  • Provide technical input to proposals and respond to customer engineering queries.
  • Occasional site visits for surveys, installation support and/or commissioning.

Required:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Acoustics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or related discipline.
  • Experience in acoustic engineering (industrial noise control, HVAC/building services acoustics, plant noise, or acoustic products).
  • Confident interpreting acoustic data and producing clear client-facing technical documentation.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.

Desirable:

  • CadnaA / SoundPLAN (or similar) and/or octave-band spreadsheet calculation experience.
  • Familiarity with relevant standards/guidance and acoustic test methods.
  • CAD literacy (SolidWorks/Inventor/AutoCAD); exposure to CFD-informed design is beneficial.

What We Offer:

  • Varied, hands-on projects from concept through to fabrication and delivery.
  • In-house manufacturing environment with close collaboration between engineering and production.
  • Salary Competitive, DOE, plus company benefits and development support.
