Business Development Manager

We're hiring a driven Business Development Manager to win new business across the UK construction and built environment market, while also developing and growing key accounts once projects are awarded.

This is a role for someone who enjoys getting in early with decisionmakers, shaping opportunities, and converting conversations into live projects. Sales cycles can be fast or complex (from weeks to multi-year programmes), with many opportunities converting within 3-6 months when managed well.

Key responsibilities

Generate new business by identifying projects early and building a high-quality pipeline.

Open doors with key stakeholders including contractors, consultants, architects/designers, building services contacts, merchants and distributors (where relevant).

Manage opportunities through the commercial journey: qualification, proposal/quotation, tender support and close.

Deliver confident customer meetings, presentations and (where relevant) CPD-style sessions.

Grow and protect awarded accounts: improve repeat order rate, expand product adoption and maintain margin.

Maintain accurate CRM activity, forecasts and close plans to ensure clear visibility of pipeline and conversion.

Work closely with internal teams (design/production/commercial) to ensure deliverable proposals and smooth handover.

What success looks like (KPIs/targets)

New business revenue and gross margin delivery.

Consistent pipeline creation (new projects, new accounts, new stakeholder relationships).

Strong conversion from qualified opportunity to awarded business.

Account growth: retention, upsell/cross-sell and improved share of wallet.

High activity levels (meetings, proposals, tenders supported) with clear outcomes.

Skills & experience

Proven track record in B2B business development with measurable wins.

Ideally from construction, building services, building products, architectural products, M&E / HVAC / plumbing & heating, or the wider built environment supply chain.

Confident with consultative selling, negotiations and commercially sound proposals.

Organised, resilient, and motivated by targets and personal performance.

Fit note: This role is generally not suited to candidates whose experience is primarily in broadband/telecoms, automotive sales, or tools/DIY retail, unless you can demonstrate successful B2B new-business wins within the construction/built environment sector.
