Job Title: Business Support Manager

Location: Ashford, Kent

Hours: 30 Hours per week, Monday to Friday during normal office hours. (Occasional evenings required)

Pay: £25.92 ph

This is a temporary position for around 9 months, based in the office with potential for some home working once settled.

Overview

  • Lead a community/estate management charity, reporting to the Board Chair, ensuring strong governance, smooth operations, financial stability and positive resident engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day operations and manage resident/customer enquiries and communications in relation to a local housing development.
  • Advise the Board on governance and decision-making, ensuring alignment with the charity's aims and governing documents.
  • Plan and deliver organisational transition, including exit/independence planning from the accountable body and future staffing/resource planning.
  • Recruit and line-manage operational staff, including performance and absence management.
  • Manage the estate management contractor to maintain site standards and deliver value for residents.
  • Own financial administration: business planning, setting charges/fees, monitoring accounts, approving payments and maintaining records for annual accounts.
  • Oversee arrears/debt recovery activity, including escalation to external recovery/legal action where appropriate.
  • Produce and present reporting for Board/committee meetings and the AGM (including financial and risk information).
  • Coordinate land/asset handovers from developers, ensuring quality meets maintenance standards.
  • Lead community engagement (events, resident forums, community hub/office oversight) and keep public-facing information (e.g., website) up to date.
  • Identify and pursue external grant funding and ensure compliance with key requirements (H&S, data protection, safeguarding, business continuity).

Essential Requirements

  • Business administration/management qualification (or equivalent relevant experience).
  • Proven experience leading operations and managing a team in a similar environment.
  • Strong financial competence (budgeting/monitoring, setting charges/fees, reporting).
  • Confident stakeholder management and communication skills (Board, residents, contractors, partners).
  • Strong organisation/prioritisation skills; able to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Good IT and presentation/report-writing skills.

Working Conditions

  • Some evening/unsocial hours required (e.g., AGM and community events).
