About the Role

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and adaptable Environmental Operations and Contracts Officer to join a busy Environmental Contracts team. This role is key to delivering high-quality, customer-focused environmental services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support a range of environmental services including waste and recycling, street cleansing, cemeteries, allotments, garages, and environmental contracts
  • Handle service requests and respond to public enquiries in a professional and timely manner
  • Liaise and coordinate with external contractors
  • Maintain accurate digital records and assist with administrative and financial processes
  • Assist in the delivery of projects and community initiatives
  • Support the administration of public health funerals
  • Manage garage and allotment tenancies
  • Administer cemetery burials
  • Promote community-led recycling and litter-picking initiatives

This is a varied position involving site visits and cross-service collaboration, offering a dynamic working environment.

About You

The successful candidate will be proactive, organised, and able to work both independently and as part of a team. Confidence in handling public enquiries, including sensitive matters, is essential.

Essential skills and attributes:

  • Strong organisational skills with a methodical and accurate approach
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Teams
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Experience within local government
  • Knowledge of waste and recycling services
  • Experience in contract administration or financial processes
