Due to investment and ongoing growth, we're on the lookout for an experienced Production Manager to help lead their manufacturing operation, support compliance and accreditation activities, and drive performance through strong leadership.
Job Summary
The Production Manager will oversee day-to-day manufacturing & distribution operations and ensure production targets, quality standards and customer expectations are consistently achieved. This is a key leadership role that would involve supporting continuous improvement, developing people, and improving systems and processes across the production function. You'll also play an important part in maintaining and improving quality management systems, including supporting BSI/ISO accreditation documentation and audit readiness.
Key Responsibilities
- Run day-to-day production to hit targets for output, quality, delivery and cost.
- Plan and update production schedules so people, materials and machines meet deadlines.
- Lead simple improvements to cut waste and boost efficiency (e.g., 5S, standard work, "right first time").
- Support the quality system, including BSI/ISO paperwork, document control and getting ready for audits.
- Make sure quality checks are followed, investigate problems, and put fixes in place so issues don't come back.
- Manage materials and stock levels, helping avoid shortages and downtime.
- Use the ERP system to track performance and report on key figures like output, scrap, downtime and labour efficiency.
- Spot bottlenecks and production issues early and act quickly to resolve them.
- Work closely with Engineering on line performance, planned maintenance and breakdowns.
- Liaise with Transport and Customer Service to keep dispatch running smoothly and customers updated.
- Lead and support the team day-to-day, including training, performance and development.
- Make sure health & safety is followed across the production area and keep standards high.
- Feed into planning and decisions by using production data and shopfloor feedback.
Skills & Experience
- Proven leadership experience as in a fast paced manufacturing setting. (Ideally FMCG)
- Strong people leadership and able to motivate teams, set clear expectations and maintain standards.
- A solid track record of improving processes and boosting efficiency.
- Confident with ERP/MRP systems and comfortable using data to track performance and support decisions.
- Good understanding of quality and compliance requirements; experience helping with BSI/ISO accreditation paperwork would be a real plus.
- Highly organised, able to manage several priorities at once in a busy environment.
- Strong communication skills - able to work well with other departments and influence at different levels.
- Practical and hands-on, with a proactive approach to solving problems.

This role is based on-site, in Dumfries but commutable from; Lochmaben, Lockerbie, Annan, Castle Douglas, Dalbeattie etc.
