Full time, hands-on senior workshop role

This is a senior, practical role for an experienced fabrication professional who leads from the front. The post holder will take day-to-day responsibility for the smooth running of the fabrication workshop while remaining directly involved in fabrication, problem-solving, and project delivery on the shop floor.

Rather than being primarily office or sales based, this role is centred around hands-on leadership, ensuring that work is built right first time, teams are supported, and projects are delivered safely, on time, and to a high standard.

The role will support business growth through excellent delivery, technical input, and client confidence - not through direct sales targets. Area covered East Suffolk, Cambridge and Essex.

Requirements

  • Take responsibility for the daily operation of the fabrication workshop, including job allocation, sequencing of work, and managing workflow.
  • Work alongside the fabrication team, carrying out fabrication, welding, fitting, and problem-solving as required.
  • Interpret drawings, specifications, and job packs, and ensure the team clearly understands what is required.
  • Monitor progress of jobs, anticipate issues, and adjust resources and priorities to keep work moving
  • Carry out checks on completed work to ensure it meets internal quality standards and customer requirements.
  • Provide clear, practical leadership to fabricators, welders, and apprentices.
  • Act as a senior technical point of contact for customers when required.
  • Attend site visits or client meetings to review scope, solve fabrication issues, or support project delivery.
  • Provide practical input into quotations and build-ability of new work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strong background in fabrication, welding, or metalwork within a workshop environment.

  • Proven experience in a senior, lead, or supervisory fabrication role.

  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.

  • Confident working hands-on with steel, aluminium, and fabrication equipment.

  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.

  • Natural leader who leads by example on the shop floor.

  • Good communication skills with both workshop staff and external contacts.

  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients, suppliers, and industry partner.
