The role of the Technical Assistant is predominantly administrative, focusing on undertaking document checks and using our innovative AI system to support this process. There is also an element of assisting Environmental Health trained staff within the inspection sheds; however, the role is primarily office‑based with full training given on all of our systems and well as Health & Safety inductions to keep safe on site.

The successful applications will be placed on one of our six 24/7 teams and work a 6-week rolling shift pattern which also included nights. Lunch breaks are 30 minutes.

Our offices and inspection sheds are located approximately a 10-15 minute walk from the secure car park. As such, successful applicants must have a reasonable level of fitness to comfortably undertake this walk. A car is not essential for the role; however, it is recommended due to the site's location just off Junction 10a of the M20, adjacent to the A2070. However, there is a pedestrian entrance if required.

Some additional tasks for the role, which may help to find appropriate applicants are:

  • To complete CHED checks on L/R and M/R jobs online
  • Use A.I to complete CHED checks on M/R jobs and then manually check any discrepancies
  • To complete IUU checks when required
  • To respond to emails and phone calls from agents and haulers regarding their consignment
  • To escalate complaints to Team Leader/relevant department
  • To conduct seal checks on lorries to ensure continuity of consignments
  • To accompany Officers/Vets on inspections in the Shed's and fill in relevant information on a tablet and Philis (internal system)
  • Complete Identity checks on consignments in the Shed's under the guidance of the Officer/Vets
  • To accompany Officers/Vets and use the tablet to document the process of detentions on our internal systems
  • To assist with sampling of consignments carried out by Officers/Vets
  • To carry out collections of rejected consignments or re-entries and upload pictures in Philis
  • To co-ordinate the lorries on site that have attended the BCP including liaising with other agencies on site to ensure an efficient and timely process
  • To correspond with agents with queries from the Vets/Officers and chasing the relevant paperwork
  • To answer queries raised by agents on charges to their accounts either by phone or email
  • To collect paperwork from the Defra front officers for Officers and Vets
  • To keep up to date with legislation changes
  • To keep up to date with outbreaks that occur and implement any changes needed to ensure we are following procedures
